Hot Water Systems
Hot Water Systems
There are lots of ways to heat the water in your home. Here are the main types of hot water systems?
The three main types of hot water systems in use in the UK are open vented, unvented and instantaneous.
1. Open vented hot water systems
The open vented hot water system uses lots of different parts to heat the water. The open vented hot water system is made up of a hot water cylinder, a cold water storage cistern, special pipework and a heat source to heat the water. There are two types of open vented hot water which are direct heating and indirect heating.
2. Unvented hot water systems
The unvented hot water system is alot more complicated and have many more parts to them but do allow near mains pressure hot water supply. The unvented hot water system is designed to do away with the storage cistern and operate at a higher pressure than the open vented hot water system.
3. Instantaneous hot water heating systems
The instantaneous hot water heating system method involves using gas or electricity to heat the water to a desired temperature without having to store the water. The electric instantaneous hot water heating system uses a coiled heating element to heat the water quickly in a similar way to a immersion heater or kettle.
The most common method to heat water is to use a combination boiler, the combi boiler works by using the circuit that powers the central heating and diverts it to another “water to water” heat exchanger. This part swaps out the heat from the heating water to the hot water parts of the home.
